Went here with my wife and daughter for a quiet family dinner. The description said its not good for kids, but my daughter really enjoyed the place. It was a nice summer evening, so we sat outside, where they have extensive seating. We looked at the whole menu but we were focused on the small plates - its the main reason we came to this place and we were not disappointed. The best of the bunch was the sefood fondue. Our server was very efficient and friendly.

Firefly is a place I go to several times per month. Girls nights out, date nights, birthday dinners, large get togethers, or to go watch the game on the big screen tv's. This place is delicious...I always have a good time coming here. The Thai Peanut dish is EXCELLENT- and a new menu item this year. I get it every time I come here. Sushi is not the best, and is over priced. I don't enjoy sushi anyway....but people have told me. The calamari is GREAT, as well as the seafood dip with bread, and a normal cheeseburger is great! Anything you order you will enjoy. Small plates are fun to share, or have a light meal on your own. Good wine selection. Every day of the week is a "special" so be sure to check that out. Wednesdays are ladies day--1/3 off all food and drink. Great to go with all your girlfriends for a low price! I spend a good amount of my paycheck here....for good reason. The bar area is swanky, yet causal enough for jeans. Relaxed atmosphere, and decorated nicely. Service is not always 100% so this gets 4 stars.

Fantastic food, horrendous service. If you go, the sushi was great, the salpicon was incredible. Our waiter forgot to put half our order in. We waited an hour (after placing the order) for our food.

So good!!!! The avocado salad with fresh basil dressing is absolutely amazing. Fresh corn, Gorgonzola cheese, avocado, amazing dressing. I got the walleye small plate and it was so good! Mashed potatoes with Gorgonzola cream were decent but not to die for. The carrot cake was the highlight of the night - so fresh and so good!!! Also love the pita chips and hummus to start!

I have been going to this restaurant for over a decade, and it still doesn't disappoint! This place was the first that I ever tried goat cheese, and also sweet potato fries. Though these ingredients are commonplace now, they definitely weren't 12+ years ago. Though many items on the menu look amazing, it is hard for me to visit and not get the Avocado Salad. It has corn, zucchini (my zucchini was missing on this visit, but the salad was still great), avocado, goat cheese, and the most AMAZING dressing on earth: creamy lemon basil. Seriously, the stuff is delicious! I have tried to replicate it at home when I can't get my Firefly fix, but it never delivers the big basil punch that I get in the restaurant. My server must also know how awesome the dressing is, as she automatically brought two sides of it to the table with my salad. This visit we also tried the blue cheese fries, which were delightful! My boyfriend had the bluegill, and he loved it as well. Please book a trip to Firefly if you are visiting TC! You won't regret it.

They know how to hire great servers! Food is meh...atmosphere is nonexistent... Really the place is unremarkable. It's sad really. Maybe I just wanted it to be "Firefly" themed motif. Who knows. I do know this place does not aim to misbehave!

Cool music. Great ambiance. Food is... Meh. The menu has a lot of conflicting themes, and as can be expected from that, all of the food is middle ground. The sushi is "beginner" sushi without creativity or really much raw food. Normal sushi lovers will never order off this limited menu. The small plates idea is nice and most are well executed, but each one seems to skimp on the sauce. Order extra to begin with! With two bars, great music, on the river... With a little re-direction this could be a phenomenal restaurant. Right now, they're just missing the mark.

Okay place. Prices a little high. Staff businesslike but not personable. The boring, canned music was loud at our outside table with the speaker right above. Asked the waiter to turn it down. She said someone would do it. Asked a few times. It was never turned down. A little thing, maybe, but the loud, crummy music was an annoyance through the meal.

So we were really hoping for a great sushi place to satisfy our local cravings. Wanted to enjoy a nice Sushi restaurant in TC, but was left very disappointed. Service and atmosphere were good I really liked our waitress, we just were not impressed with the food. Loved the coffee, had a Salad which was very large and didn't taste fresh. The fish in my boyfriends sushi was not particularly fresh or well executed. Unfortunately, I don't think we'll be back.

I was surprised by how busy this place was. It was decent considering their weeknight specials - when we went, it was 1/2 sushi and 'add a dessert to 3 small plates'. We opted for the chocolate fondue - which came with a generous portion of fruit and banana bread. Authenticity wise....I won't go there.

A co-worker highly recommended Fire Fly. After reading reviews we were skeptical, but very glad we chose to trust someone we know over Yelp. Fire Fly has the most unique and well prepared food! My husband and I shared 3 small plates: asparagus prosciutto, arugula salad and blackened walleye. We didn't have a bite left. Go here and get this rating up to a 5! We almost passed and are so glad we didn't!

In general a good experience. Our waiter was excellent and the setting was not bad. It's flopped on the shore of the Boardman river just outside of TC downtown proper. The food was underwhelming but not terrible. The place has an almost corporate feel to it despite the fact it isn't. It is owned by a restaurant group entity that owns several restaurants in the area which may explain the corporate-ish feel. But overall nice place to eat. And before 17:30 it's 1/3 off the menu for the value conscience. Bonus!

A wide variety of small plates at very reasonable prices, a pleasant atmosphere, and friendly waitstaff. Sure, you can find better examples of sushi at a sushi restaurant, and better hoummous at a Lebanese restaurant, but everything here is done well- we didn't have a single dish we didn't like. This has become a regular stop for us on our visits to Traverse City.

Food was good. However our server was horrible. He started off by telling us that the only reason he was working that night was because another servers dog had died!! Side note: three kids at the table! Really??? Also stated that he didn't have time to shower. Brought wrong beer. We ate here for this year's Mother's Day and it was wonderful! The house-made pot stickers were amazing! It is kind of a half-tapas style place, half-traditional entree meals. Yet no matter what you get, it is delicious! I had the filet mignon with sauteed mushrooms and roasted garlic mashed potatoes! YUM! If you are looking for a great, casual place for dinner, don't pass this place by!

Sat night - Happy Hour what?! Cheap drinks! We ordered about 4 items to share among the four of us. We ordered like 3 steak like dishes. The best was the skewers but really they all tasted about the same. We also ordered a taco nothing too exciting. We really enjoyed the complimentary pita bread with hummus. I really liked how they weren't hard/fried but nice and soft. Really, none of the dishes impressed me. Maybe if we ordered more Asian style items - but then I am Asian and has been eating authentic Asian food my entire life. Tip: Order more or you'll be hungry later!

Tapas style food with a great atmosphere! We only ordered small plates but they were really good! They give you homemade hummas right away with delicious flatbread. My husband and friends had a few sushi plates and they said it was really good! I would eat here again. Great food and great atmosphere!

I went there about a week ago. I love this place because of the copious amounts of small plates offered. The menu unfortunately has changed though to reflect a more traditional restaurant menu. They cut the tapas menu down by 1/4 which is a bit of a bummer. They offer more entrees now. The also have a a substantial sushi selection which is fab. My waitress Halleigh was fabulous. Very friendly, efficient. & competent. The restaurant has a great location. Way off the beaten path & situated on Boardman Lake/River. They have a great wrap around patio so u can sit outside with your dog. There are floor to ceiling windows overlooking the River so not only a great view but lots of natural light. They have a small bar when you first walk in & two other indoor seating areas which are spacious. It has a great light, airy, pleasant, relaxing vibe : ) They provide complimentary pita & hummus. Pita was fresh, grilled & soft with a DELISH garlicky side of hummus. They have a fab drinks menu with lots of stylized martins, Wine & great microbrew selection. I had a bell's Oberon... I ordered a half salad of avocado, fresh grilled corn, tomato, with a creamy lemon vinaigrette. It was divine. I then ordered the sirloin kebabs which were much smaller than I had hoped. I had them over rice instead of French fries which was a nice option. They were cooked more medium altho I ordered med rare. The marinade was tasty tho. I also ordered a ny strip med rare to go which was cooked perfectly. I really like this place. I usually go here every time I am in town bc it's consistently a very good restaurant with all the right amenities! RECOMMENDED!

Sushi needs to be made with the proper rice NOT REGULAR RICE Sushi Rice. 2 cups uncooked glutinous white rice (sushi rice) 3 cups water 1/2 cup rice vinegar 1 tablespoon vegetable oil 1/4 cup white sugar 1 teaspoon salt Directions Rinse the rice in a strainer or colander until the water runs clear. Combine with water in a medium saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover and cook for 20 minutes. Rice should be tender and water should be absorbed. Cool until cool enough to handle. In a small saucepan, combine the rice vinegar, oil, sugar and salt. Cook over medium heat until the sugar dissolves. Cool, then stir into the cooked rice. When you pour this in to the rice it will seem very wet. Keep stirring and the rice will dry as it cools.

This is one of my special treat spots of Traverse. To start if off, they always have a friendly waitstaff. I'm pretty sure in the many times I have come here, everyone is smiling and willing to make that experience a good one. Sushi Tuesday! Half of sushi on Tuesday (1/3 off tuna sushi) You can argue that the sushi is small. I would have to say, yeah, I've had much more Voluminous sushi. However, the firefly has wonderful tastes and flavors. Ones to try are the Leelanau(salmon with a nice cherry filler), El Gordo(spicy, jalepeño, cream cheese, pickled carrot wrapped in tuna and to dip in salsa) and the Empire(crab and asparagus) The small plates here are also a good go for. What I like about the small plates is they are not over whelming. Simple and just enough to put you at full. Around the restaurant are chalkboards that display the deserts offered. If you want, they have menus for this with prices along side. Favorites for me are the carrot cake, flourless chocolate cake, and the chocolate fondue. When I order the fondue, I ask for no pineapple. They will just add a little more of everything else to substitute. This is a great desert to share. I love coming into the Firefly. They have a nice open dining area and beautiful views of the river.

Every meal starts with complimentary pita chips (nicely soft yet crispy) and hummus, which is yummy! I must admit, though, I've only ever ordered the sushi here because on Tuesdays it's half off. It's good, too! My husband and I make a point to come here every year when we come to Traverse City. This time they had three very different vegetarian sushi rolls (Spicy Avo, Fusion, and Veggie), so we got one of each. All three were good, but I think my favorite was the Fusion, with pineapple, cucumber, pickled ginger, and pickled carrot. They also have nice outdoor seating overlooking the Boardman River.

I Love this place and have become quit the regular. I have lived in Japan and it's up to par. Sometimes even better. It's the best the best sushi in town. The rice is perfect sticky and soft. I was greeted by a new girl named Kelsey who sat us and I was so impressed with her smile and how welcoming she was. She was helping the servers clearing dishes and bring out food. Never saw her stop helping everyone. I live this place my number one go to in town. The atmosphere is cool too.

Quick review - I met a few friends here on a Tuesday evening for their half off sushi special. I was warned that the sushi was "okay" and was not disappointed. It was just okay. The hummus and chips brought to the table was good and the atmosphere is trendy and cool but is little loud. I decided to revisit Firefly a couple weeks later by myself and was disappointed to discover that the sushi deal is for dine in only. I was alone and decided to pass. I give them three for the good deal on the sushi and the decent atmosphere but take a few away for the no takeout rule and the quality of the sushi. I'll try them again for sure.

FireFly has a wide range of choices. They offer small plates and sushi as well as full entrees. For me the sushi is below average. They use too much rice and it's more of a novelty than real sushi. They have had issues with consistency and sometimes what you ordered last time may not be exactly the same dish ( diff portion size or style). Don't get me wrong I go there all the time. They have great outdoor seating and the waitstaff has always been good.

Just ordered a take out for my family. We staying at Sugar Beach resort. The sushi at Kroger is better. Small rolls and very bad after taste. The General Chicken was so bland that hospital food is tastier. Stay away!! Overpriced.

I have been here several times. The pita chips with hummus were yummy. My husband who swore hummus was not his friend had a change of heart. Ordered the 3 small plate deal and have never been disappointed with any of them. The wait staff is very friendly. I did have sweet potato fries that were soggy but not a big deal to me. The sushi is ok.

My friend and I came here after an evening film for a light dinner and some drinks. They have half-price martinis and mojitos on Thursday, but we thought that was a bit dangerous so we went for some white wine. Half-price martini nights never end well, do they? We ate outside on their nice patio space, near the river. We shared Thai peanut noodles with tofu, sweet potato fries, and a spicy tuna roll. The menu at Firefly is really eclectic. Whenever I see a menu that ranges from sushi to burgers to curry to steak, I have to wonder how good the food is going to be. When a kitchen doesn't have a specialty, I get a bit suspicious. But that being said, everything at Firefly was tasty. The Thai noodles had a bit of the takeout flair (not that I was expecting a beacon of authenticity here) but the peanut sauce had a nice flavor. Sweet potato fries were plentiful and addicting, with a basket easily shared between several people. It's a fun atmosphere, with something for everyone on the menu. It's nice to go off the beaten path of downtown, on occasion. Small plates are 3 for $30, but as the portions are fairly sizeable, I think it's a pretty good deal. Service was attentive. Some of the seats out on the patio (the seats nearest the river) had some spiders chillin' in the area - big spiders - so stick to the tables nearest the building if you have arachnophobia. Like me.

We came here on a Saturday night. The facilities are rather wonderful, actually. It was a well-decorated and sophisticated atmosphere. My family and I ordered an assortment of tapas. But, the waiters kept forgetting our orders and having to return to our table to ask us. Our food was pretty good, and I specifically recommend the Prince Edward Island mussels. They were great. Overall, this restaurant was pretty good for Americanized Asian food.

I'm visiting Michigan from Dallas, TX. My family is staying in Midland but drove up to Traverse City for a few days. We are all big sushi lovers so we decided to go to Firefly. Pros: Ladies Night. We went tonight (Wednesday) and they had some pretty great discounts for the ladies. I'm not 21...almost. You can imagine how happy I was to order an iced tea. On ladies night of all nights! hmph. The seared ahi was also perfect. Cons: WHAT is up with the sushi!? It tastes fine but its like 90% rice with a teensy weensy bit of the actual fish in the middle. I'm talking like, you're going to need to bring your magnifying glass. I dont want to pay $12 for rice wrapped in sea weed!

Nom (nom nom) bread and hummus came out as table bread. It was well cooked, had a nice crust but wasn't hard, and the hummus was slightly spicy and delicious. I wish some mexican food restaurants would take a page from these guys! After reading a YELP Tip, and hearing the guys next to me order the White Cheddar Ale soup, I had to cave in an order a cup. Although it came in the bowl, it was the best $3.25 I spent today. Perfect amount, great body... thick and fulfilling like a bisque, and exactly what the Dr. ordered to get me through the rest of the day! Very possibly could be the best thing on the menu! It was really incredible! For my entree, (again after reading the Tip and hearing the guys next to me order) I had the Horseradish encrusted strip loin (5oz) lunch w jalapeño cheddar grits. The horseradish was nice, but I thought it might have been a dry encrusted rub... instead it was a nice thick sauce on the top of the steak. The grits were okay, and had nice flavor... but were a little dry. They were closer to the consistency of sticky rice. Which for reviewing sake... It seemed every negative review on here referred to the sushi. My meal was a solid 4 stars, but I saw a lot of sushi being served... and eaten. However, they are right... it seemed a small amout of fish compared to a very thick rice roll! Anyway... just my $0.02.

This is one of our favorites when visiting Traverse City! The atmosphere is very nice. Menu is broad from steaks to pasta and sushi. Only once was it overly busy and service was slow but I think a local school had a dance that night. You saw managers out helping her food delivered and making us laugh and smile!! We will be back

Had a farewell dinner at Firefly tonight. There was two of us but we made a reservation anyways cause it is summer time in Traverse City. When we got there, they were not busy at all and we were sat right away. Our waitress came right away with pita chips and hummus. Firefly has the best pita chips in town. I wish I would've ask for more. I ordered the Fettucini Primavera. It was really good but I'm not sure if I would consider it a "big plate." The flavors all blended very nicely. I highly recommend it. The food and service at Firefly are both great and worth the stop when you are in Traverse City. I will return soon.

My girlfriends and I like coming on Wednesday for Ladies Night when we get a third off our bill! We always get three tapas plates a piece and chow down :) I haven't had a tapas plate I didn't like, and I always leave with something to take home. Great drink selection and overall I think the prices are fair. It has a nice patio in summer and in winter it has plenty of windows so you don't feel too cooped up inside. I do wish they had a little more lighting after dark though as it is a bit dim. In a nutshell, this place is tasty if you're looking for a casual atmosphere and reasonably priced food.

Ok Sushi snobs. It's northern Michigan for Christ's sake. It's nice for a change to have some rolls vs. fish fry friday everywhere else. They have a Tuesday special so you can try them at a discount. We mixed rolls with some of the small plates - excellent. A tall Sapporo and delicious family style sharing of multiple small plates and it was a great meal. Another night, they had a Mojito special and although my Mojito experience is limited, there was real mint and they were delicious. Outdoor in summer weather with the river to look at - great dining experience. Both times my wife and I went, great servers. We will be back. First time we went, my sister-in-law went back for another dessert to go because she dropped hers on a walk we took by the river - they were so kind when they found she dropped it, they gave her another one and wouldn't take her money.

One of our go-to spots in Traverse City! I've been here several times, at least 1-2 times per summer, almost always with a young child or two. Despite being hip and offering somewhat upscale food it's not too hard to bring kids here. If we can't sit outside, enjoying the lovely view, the inside is bustling enough that we don't feel too self-conscious, and the food arrives quickly. I don't think I've ever had to wait for a table - it seems to be far enough off of Front Street that it's never mobbed, at least during the week. The kids meals are huge, so if you're still hungry after your small plates you can polish off the remains of an adult-sized hamburger or awesome chicken fingers. And they have good deals. We recently went on the Sunday, where the special is $7 steak and fries and $5 wine. We got two steaks, two glasses of wine, and two kids meals for about $40, not much more than we'd pay to eat in Panera. Even the fries are great, and I've never been disappointed with the wine. My steak was perhaps a bit overcooked for "medium." I've enjoyed the small plates in the past, and you can definitely spend more here, too. The prices have gone up since last summer (more expensive than reflected on the website) though still about average for the area. I've never tried the sushi. I didn't realize it's part of a group, but I'd recommend it for moderately-priced locally-themed food and drinks in a pretty location.

Every May I have a meeting at Grand Traverse and every May I try to eat someplace new. This year we tried Firefly. While we couldn't get a table right away we were brought to the lounge where our party of five was kept together and able to enjoy beers from the FANTASTIC beer list. Wow. I don't know if I've ever seen a better beer list. I had the Short's Soft Parade on tap. They have an impressive bottle collection as well. Toward the end of our first round of drinks we were brought to our table and given menus. Our servers were able to answer questions and attended to our needs (not that we had many) quickly and courteously. We ordered sushi, small plates, and one pasta seafood entree and while everything was delicious some things were over salted, especially the gnocchi. The seafood pasta dish came with no seafood. That's not okay. While the wait staff was nice about it it was kind of a huge mistake - the kitchen or server should have caught that before the food made it to the table. We weren't rushed, our water glasses were kept full but not annoyingly so and overall, were happy with our experience. The ladies room, however, was disgusting. I don't care how busy a restaurant is - that's just wrong. I would visit Firefly again when in town - especially for drinks and small plates.

This was the first stop on out honeymoon dining out! We walked into a great environment and friendly staff. We were seated and then brought a complimentary small plate of humus and pita bread (the bread was so spongey and unique) which was delicious. We ordered three small plates: Thai coconut curry, pita nachos, peanut Thai noodles. The small plates were rather large. We also ordered the el Gordo roll and spider roll. They were amazing! My wife and I were so surprised one restaurant could be spot on in a variety of ethnic foods!!

I have a couple favorites at Firefly, but because of one thing, I wont be back. I just have to say.....raising a price, fine. It is a norm in this biz. But what is NOT good for business is to not only raise a price by $3, but to shrink the portion by half. I used to come in about 3 times a month and order the tuna app witht he veggies. The veggies were now a garnish, and I think the tuna shrunk. It really is not a good idea to get into doing that. I wont be back because of it.

A group of us went to Firefly for my birthday when we were visiting in Traverse and were pleasantly surprised. Only downside, there is a really disconnected vibe between the dining room and bar. We were seated int he bar which was decorated like any there sports bar. Oh well. The food was actually really great. Our whole party enjoyed our meals. There is randomly sushi on the menu, most rolls are vegetarian and there are interesting flavors. For desert the cheesecake is a must have!! If your looking for a more intimate setting, there are much better options in the area but for a large party, Firefly is a good option.

Driving by, my husband and I noticed the restaurant and decided to stop in for dinner. It was early, so there were only a few customers there at the time. We were seated inside, next to a big window with a view of water and the outdoor seating area. The décor inside was nice, and the atmosphere seemed relaxing. My husband ordered a cheeseburger, and I ordered chicken tacos. The waiter brought our drinks and there was a bug in my coke. I didn't make a big deal of it. He brought me a new, bug free, glass of coke and I was good. It was a little annoying to have several flies in our area, but, it was summertime, and the front doors were open, so I guess it happens. Our food arrives and my husband's burger, which he ordered medium, was over cooked and dry. He doesn't like to complain, so he just ate it. My chicken tacos had good flavor, however, the chicken was extremely dry and difficult to chew. I was still hungry and decided I had room for dessert. I ordered the cheesecake. When the waiter brought it to the table, before he even set it down, I noticed the bug on the side of the cheesecake and pointed it out to him. He offered to bring me another piece, but I had had enough, so I turned it down. My husband asked for the check, and the waiter brought it and said he removed our pops from the bill for our trouble. (Gee thanks.) While still seated at the table, waiting for change, something bit me on my chin. I ended up with a big itchy irritated bite on my chin that looked horrible and didn't go away for several days. On the way out, we stood at the front of the restaurant near the door looking for someone to ask about speaking to the manager, but no one seemed to care that we were in need of assistance. After a few minutes we just left. We will never come back again. Therefore, after that experience I can NOT recommend this place at all.

We traveled to Traverse City on vacation. The menu looked great and as I was craving some sushi, I talked my husband and two kids into trying Firefly. We were informed that it would be a 15-20 minute wait for a table for four. That seemed very reasonable, considering it was the height of the summer tourist season. As there is no waiting area, we literally stepped back four paces to the half-wall across from the hostess station to wait. Over the course of the next ten minutes, we watched as the hostesses seated two other walk-in, no-reservation parties of four ahead of us! I did note that those parties were argumentative with the staff. They complained that 15-20 minutes was too long to wait and why couldn't they just sit at the tables they saw being bussed at the moment? I guess our being polite doesn't mean much to the hostesses. My husband informed the hostess that we were leaving, explained why, and we walked out to the Mackinaw Brewing Company. The food there was excellent and the staff was very considerate.

We came here on a Thursday night because we heard that there were good deals on drinks, and some of us were really craving sushi. Those of us who drink got a good deal, but those of us wanting sushi were fresh out of luck that night. We ordered a $21 sushi plate which was supposed to come with California rolls, nigiri, and vegetarian hand rolls. We were sorely disappointed at the amount of sushi for the price we paid (see uploaded photo). It was all very pretty, but nowhere near worth our money. One of my fellow interns commented on the music as the night progressed and it became more and more like clubbing music, albeit without the flashing lights and dance floor. Disappointed in this place, especially since it seems like a nice location and has great evening hours.

I have not had anything here that was less than stellar. Small plates, salads, entrees, sushi, drinks and dessert...I have had and loved it all. They even have several menu items that are put can be made gluten free. They have no problem handling large groups, nor small groups who just want the happy hour specials. They have a quieter dining area and a noisy sports bar area to suit your mood, the menu and service are the same. It's a really fun atmosphere all around. I highly recommend it.

It a restaurant has 1/2 the menu relying on sushi fusion expertise then you would think it would source it's sushi to be fresh and hire chefs who know fusion. Firefly does NOT have good nigiri (the fish is old and dry most of the time) and the fusion is more like confusion. Fusion does not mean experiment with maki (rolls) and do "whatever". For example, certain types of maki should not be served tempura style - it makes no sense and it ruins the dish! And if a restaurant is so sushi-centric it should train its staff in the art of handling soy sauce. I have been there 4 times and twice had soy sauce dripped on me or on someone at my table by the wait staff. Finally, I have been to other restaurants owned by this group and in every one there is a rush by the wait staff to clear dishes from the table that is downright rude. Please, for the love of Pete, wait until it looks like the food is missing from the plate before you grab it away. And let people enjoy their meal in peace. Firefly is trying hard. Back off the fusion sushi and stick with local fare. Slow down your rush to clean up the tables for the next party.

Amazing. Walking in I was immediately overtaken by the decor: fall colors, walls painted deep greens and purple and deep reds, huge pieces of local artwork on the walls (for sale). On to the food. To start, your "bread" consists of pan fried pita slices and hummus... Whoa! Started out with a sweet potato soup that was incredibly flavorable. Then for dinner my wife and I split 3 small plates for 30 - Asian skewers, a melted cheese with apples and bread (best dish for any cheese head) and a Thai style coconut madras curry. Went here for my bachelorette party! My maid of honor made the reservation and she had to email the manager. We got there and they didn't have our reservation. They took care of us asap and our server was super nice and helpful! So many small plates to choose from! I ordered the dark chocolate cherry martini which was on special and it was amazing. I like my drinks strong and this hit the spot. I tried a lot of the small plates as all of us ordered two or three to share each. I have to say, the Asian skewers left a lasting impression! And, the avocado salad was delish! We ordered after dinner drinks and I had this raspberry coffee drink that was to die for. It was a great dinner and we were able to see the snow falling outside which just made the night great!

I was in Traverse City for a bachelorette weekend and the maid of honor made a reservation for Friday night at Firefly. We had a slight issue when we arrived when the hostess told us they didn't have our reservation even though the maid of honor had emailed the manager directly. All was solved within a few minutes though and we were seated. There were so many choices of small plates it was hard to choose. I finally decided on the avocado salad with lemon basil dressing (wonderful!) and the horseradish crusted fillet with jalapeno grits. Both were delicious and I was extremely happy with my choices. My girlfriends had ordered some sweet potato fries with a Parmesan dipping sauce and I was in heaven! I loved the atmosphere and our waitress was great. If I ever travel to Traverse City again, I will definitely be going back to Firefly!

I love Firefly. From Tuesday 1/2 hour sushi to Sunday $5 petite steak special and everything in between! I dream about the hummus and pita chips that are brought to your table when you first arrive. Any day before 7pm is $2.50 glass of House Chardonnay and other deals off well drinks and beer. Sunday is $5 glass of any wine on the menu! The management staff here is great and so friendly. Outside seating is nice in the summer and the bar area is fun if it isn't too crowded. Try the sweet potato fries. Best in town.

I have been going to Firefly for a while now, and always enjoyed it. I usually stick to sushi and salads, but have tried a few small plates and haven't been disappointed yet! The Traverse City salad is my absolute favorite item on the menu. My only problem, and this is one I came across recently, are the "specials". Maybe it was because I was young and single when I used to frequent here, but I didn't know there was only one discount per check. So when you go for half off sushi or 1/3 off small plates or whatever day you go- get separate checks or you will only get one discount, and it will be the cheapest one you ordered!

Since it was my first time visiting the TC area, I figured I'd pick a random local restaurant and give it a shot. Having wrapped up shopping a bit later than I'd anticipated, I was concerned that I might not have time to order and eat before closing time. Not an issue! I arrived at Firefly maybe a half hour before closing time but was so hungry I decided to stick it out and order anyway. The waitress was super friendly and didn't seem put off with me at all, which was a great start. She suggested several beers from their impressive list, but I wound up opting for a lemonade instead rather than spend time deciding. I ordered a delicious cup of soup and a shrimp avocado quesadilla which came out in record time and was delicious, and even with my huge appetite I could barely finish it all! I squeaked in under $15 which was a treat for such yummy food. The atmosphere was interesting, the bar seemed lively even close to closing time on a weekday - not crowded, but animated which I enjoyed. I wish I could've arrived earlier and stayed a bit longer; that beer list really was tempting. Maybe next time I'm in TC I'll stop back by and check out the sushi.

My boyfriend always jokes that my blood has a 25% soy sauce content, so after a full week of being in Traverse City with nothing to eat but hamburgers, brats, and more cherries than I ever want to see again in my lifetime, I was positively craving some Asian comfort food. After a quick search on Yelp we were a little skeptical, as we have not had the greatest of luck with Asian-fusion restaurants, but it looked like our options were severely limited. It was either Firefly or I would have to put an IV of soy sauce in my arm STAT. Firefly truly defied our expectations - we dined there on a Saturday, and were so impressed with their food that after learning they had 1/3 off Tapas on Mondays, dropped by again three days later for dinner (we stayed an extra day in TC to eat here again!). Service, I will have to concede, was pretty bad both times, but the food definitely made up for it. On Saturday we did the 3 plates for $29 deal, and ordered three more tapas on Monday: Red Curry Noodles - 4 stars (I heart curry and I heart noodles) Asian Skewers - 4 stars (mmm sweet potato fries done right!!) Horseradish Crusted Strip Loin - 5 stars (the horseradish crust made it amazing) Potato Parmesan Dumplings - 5 stars (I would have licked the plate!) Salpicon - 3 stars (bf wasn't a fan but I liked it) Beef Tenderloin - 4 stars (the puff pastry was SO GOOD) I believe I also ordered the Empire and Leelanau rolls - they were decent, but the highlight of Firefly is definitely the tapas!! Amazing caliber of food for a mid-range chain restaurant!

Great way to start the weekend! Traverse City is our favorite escape for the occasional weekend without the kids. We've been going for years and have several favorite haunts, so last weekend we challenged ourselves to branch out and try a few new places. We are certainly glad we started our weekend off with Firefly. Ambiance was fun, energetic and trendy. Closer to what you'd typically find in Chicago rather than T.C. Serving staff was very engaging. We sampled several small plates and a signature sushi roll and found everything well prepared and very tasty. Wine menu was quite complete offering a nice selection of by-the-glass pours. Overall was a great experience and look forward to visiting again.

Another spot for martinis and sushi in TC...however, I'm gonna have to side with Red Ginger if forced to make a decision. Classy atmosphere, good location on the river, close enough to the action without being muddled with drunks and crazies. The "mango fusion" martini was a little...eh. It was fine, and at $6 for a small and $10 for a large, well priced. However, the backstretch of vodka down the hatch was not pleasant. I generally like all traces of vodka to be hidden. That way, I can blame the non-existent alcohol on why I am acting so silly...oops, I lost count. I would not lose count choking back those martinis. So, there's that. However, my lovely friend did buy me a Blue Moon shot, which tasted like melted blue ice cream. Good stuff. I just went for drinks, so that's all I can vouch for. It's a good spot off the "gut" of downtown to grab a few and avoid the masses in the summer. I'd go back for sushi/dinner... Right across from the Loading Dock if you want to get the "class" off you before you head home...

To begin, I order a Short's Nicie Spicie, a spiced wheat ale that is very refreshing and drinkable. I'm a big fan of Short's and this brew renews my faith. I am becoming more inclined to try sushi rolls, especially those which do not contain seafood, so the Spicy Avo sounds perfect to share amongst our group. Eight slices arrive on a rectangular plate, with soy, too little ginger, and a dime-sized dollop of wasabi. Inside the seaweed sheaths are firm rice, black beans, avocado, scallions, jalapeno cream cheese, and bell peppers. My first bite introduces the heat of the jalapeno, but otherwise everything tastes kind of flat, even when dipped in salty soy. The last couple pieces go to waste as no one seems that interested in finishing the plate. A big plate would just be too much food so I opt for a small plate instead. But which one? There are nearly 30 choices! The Beef Tenderloin sounds good, so I go with that. It arrives in about 15 minutes with most of the other dishes, the small tenderloin cooked medium (I forgot to specify doneness) and set atop a puff pastry stuffed with Gorgonzola, drizzled with demi-glace. It is delicous but so rich it nearly overwhelms me. Juliet shares bites of Horseradish Crusted Strip Loin (phenomenal) but John steals the show with his trout dish, swimming in cherries, mushrooms, and a thick butter sauce. It's one of the few fish dishes I think I could actually finish! Unfortunately, Diane bears the brunt of the venue's shortcomings. First, she is brought the wrong dish and when they return with her proper order -- a grilled pork loin -- it is dry and nearly too dense to cut with a knife. As they send it back, I wonder if the dish had sat under heat lamps when they brought out the wrong thing? Nevertheless, the waitress made sure that small plate came off the bill. Odd decor, uneven service, and food that's all over the board, Fire Fly just misses the mark for me. It is one of those places that seems more like a drinking establishment than a true international restaurant. We have seen so many of these "small plates" places just get it wrong on all levels, but at least Fire Fly is trying hard. With so many other great eateries in the area, I wonder if they can make it off the main thoroughfare. I may try them at a later time when we haven't been grazing all day.

I'm obsessed with this restaurant. Every time in in Traverse City, I insist on going here. This time around I had the black bean avocado cakes and the avocado goat cheese salad with lemon basil dressing, corn and zucchini. I added chicken - which was the only downside, it was cooked too long and slightly chewy. But the salad was amazing and the black bean cakes. We were there for lunch. Our waitress was polite and attentive and the cost was reasonable. I'll be back in August!

went here with a huge group for a bachelorette party, service was slow even though we had two servers for each side. our end server seemed really irritated and inattentive even though we were all really nice to her. ordered the general tso stir fry, it was terrible! my friend and I ordered the same thing and could count on one hand how many pieces of chicken were in our stir fry, i know it's a "small plate" but for $12 it was disappointing.

This place is great! It's right on the river and it has great food! It's very veggie friendly which is a major plus! We ordered the Brussels sprouts snack and black bean sliders and they were both delicious. If I am ever back in town I would definitely come back and try the veggie burger or veggie sushi rolls!

Have been coming here for years, but will not dine here ever again. The last 4 experiences here have been just awful. Came in with a small group over the weekend. We waited a full 15 minutes for someone to bring us menus. When the server came over, we asked for water and cocktails... 15 minutes later, the cocktails came, no water. Server rushed away and came back another 15 minutes later to take our order. So, at this point we've been here 45 minutes with nothing but a drink. Our server tells us "we're really busy, things are taking forever." Which is fine, I understand- I worked in restaurants for 10 years, but a simple apology would have been great. We waited about 30 minutes for food, which was sub-par at best. The small plates seem to have become teeny plates- we paid $14 for a 2-3 ounce portion of salmon, the rest was cold and small as well. The sushi here is just awful now- it's nothing more than rice, and fish which doesn't seem to be of the right quality. I used to LOVE this place, but I can't remember the last time the service was even decent. The staff seems to not care about their jobs at all. Sad to say, most people I know now feel the same way about this place. They definitely need to step it up a bit if they don't want to keep losing customers.

Love the atmosphere here and we generally always have a nice, friendly server. However the food is terrible. I am not a huge sushi fan but my fiance is big time and he said the sushi he has had there is the worst he's ever had. The potstickers taste fine but are some of the most unappealing looking potstickers I have ever seen, looking over boiled and shriveled. The ceasar salad would have been good if I asked for my dressing on the side as it was completely overloaded with dressing to the point where that was all I could taste. The asian skewers seemed like a good idea, a mix of filet mignon steak, balsamic and sweet potato fries. The meat was terrible, it had about the same quality of a steak you would find at an all you can eat buffet, just terrible. Being a local this is one of the places I try over and over and over again hoping it'll get better or I haven't found what they are known for/good at but it is honestly always a disappointment.

The small plates are not really SMALL which was a nice surprise...although my friends got the seafood fondue (which they said was absolutely amazing) and only got 4 small pieces of bread to dip into it...so they asked for more bread and about 30 minutes later, they got 4 more SMALL pieces of bread...so they resorted to eating it with their fingers. We ordered the Thai peanut noodle dish that was not as described on the menu but still pretty good and quite large. We also ordered veggie sushi and salad. The martinis are very expensive and mine tasted AWFUL. (I got the colada one but it tasted like they were missing an ingredient.) The chocolate fodue dessert which comes with a small amount of fruit and crumbled pieces of banana bread was $12.00 and it looked nothing like the photo posted here on Yelp. Their avacado salad was AMAZING! If I ever go back, I'll just get that. Lastly, our service sucked. Our waiter disappeared for long periods of time and never brought my friend a drink that she ordered...so we just left. (Luckily, it was not on the bill.) Also, the waiter took our plates before we were finished - including our silverware. Overall, I'd return, but I'd definitely order differently.

Came here with a moderate sized group and had to wait for EVERYTHING. Our drinks took 20 minutes, our food ... 40 minutes and our check another 30. Not the most efficient use of our time. You'd figure with the wait our food would have left us wanting more but sadly we wanted less - much less. Would not recommend this place. And the whole Asian fusion concept doesn't play here - more like Con-fusion.

We love this place! The whitefish was amazing; my husband had the crab cakes which were served with cherry remoulade- very different, but delicious! The salads were fresh; recommend the cherry yogurt dressing or lemon basil. Try the Mi Vida- nice combo with the black bean cake. I had the Tuna Tartare which was great served Asian-style...but could have used chopped avocado too. Great prices on wine and nice selection of local brews. Dessert is fantastic and easy to order with small plate portions. Great view of Boardman River- eat outside on the patio. Go there-Yum-o!!!

A great place for unique sushi and other dishes but at a moderate cost. A lot of the sushi roll items they offer, which are extremely tasty mind you, come in at a cost over $10/roll. This is not your run-of-the-mill sushi bar joint that you sit at but still has great sushi. This is a very popular local restaurant/bar and also offers outdoor seating. The atmosphere has always been energetic and the service has always been good and prompt. I think you'll be happy with just about anything you order from here.

I've been to Firefly twice since moving toTC in July & I like it. I love the sweet potato fries, although they are a little on the mushy side. The beef tenderloin w/ gorgonzola is yummy!! The food is much better than the service. On our 1st visit, we were rudely ousted before we were completely finished (we had paid the bill, however, and were polishing off our cocktails). A larger table was seated near us and it was clear they needed the table & we were in the way. We were limply apologized to as we exited the building. On our 2nd visit, the service was better, but our waitress had a bad habit of taking the drink & food orders from the men in our group & neglecting the women...weird. So, Firefly will probably get one more chance...and hopefully the ENTIRE experience will be good.

The building and atmosphere here is really nice and right next to the river is pleasant, especially when sitting outside. The food was good - we tried the 3 tapas for $30 and then a dessert. The problem was service - our waitress was young and inexperienced. We arrived just before happy hour ended. What does that mean to a server? It means you high tail it to the terminal to put in the drink order bc your table will undoubtedly ask you to make it happy hour pricing upon receiving the check anyway. I asked where the "Greenbush" beer was from in Michigan (there is a city called Greenbush on the East side of the state, btw). She didn't know. When she came back, I asked again thinking she had asked somebody. Nope. I asked her to find out at this point. Upon her return, she said the bartender said it was south of Detroit. Um, okay. We looked it up on our phones and it's the west side of the state near Benton Harbor. Ummm, I guess that's south of Detroit (and the other side of the state). Also when describing the dessert, she didn't specify the type of ice cream when we specifically asked about a certain dish and I didn't want to have a repeat of her not knowing the menu well enough so I didn't bother asking. So they more than have the potential to be awesome with better server education. They need to know what the beers taste like (if only by reading a description if they're not old enough to drink) and to go beyond the bare minimum in service. Never underestimate how important service is, the few gaffes a server makes can mean the difference between a guest returning or not.

Eh. Let's start with service. Sub-par, but not excruciating, to be fair. Appetizer of potstickers...served cold. When we were honest about it when asked how the dish was, we were re-served--cold potstickers! My filet mignon was one of the least appetizing I've had. I know, right? It's filet. But it wasn't all that good. Should have ordered the salmon. I didn't leave 310 with a feeling that I wanted to return. It's been a few months...and...nope. Still don't care.

I tried couple sushi rolls at 310. And I have to say that they were not so good! Start at rice in sushi.....it was so dry and looked like they did not use Japanese rice to make their sushi. I think I just set my expectation too high. For $13 each roll, I rather go to Meijer and buy to-go :) I should order sweet potato fries .... darn it!

I had Mother's Day brunch at 310. An expensive and rather gourmet looking buffet was advertised, so we had pretty high hopes. Unfortunately those were dashed when we were presented with a rather lackluster selection (only halfway through the mother's day service) and along with some unimpressive and cheap looking dishes, some were ragged looking, and some, even worse, weren't warm. This wasn't a Denny's brunch either, this was $20 a head. I'm aware that the mother's day buffet was a more-or-less one time thing, but it negatively impacted my opinion on 310. To be fair, I've had some decent food at 310: last time I was there I had some good (albiet overpriced and not even remotely genuine) sushi. After the brunch, however, I'm probably not coming back any time soon.

The food at Firefly was blah... The curry was too salty. I assume it was Thai curry because it tasted that way though the menu did not specify. I ordered two sushi rolls and they were overstuffed with rice. There was only a small amount of fish/veggies in the actual rolls -- such a shame because they were kind of pricey. We came around Happy Hour when drinks were half off. I had a Cherry Mojito (since cherries are plentiful in Traverse) and a raspberry one. Both tasted great and were probably the best parts of my meal. My friend ordered a beer because she wanted to try it. She asked for the waiter's suggestion and he brought her an ale. It was bitter (as you beer drinkers may know) and she strongly disliked it. She asked for a new drink but she was still charged for both even though the waiter is the one that recommended the drink. The service was mediocre, though they do deserve and honorable mention for putting up with us after we moved from an outside table to an inside table. (Reason being that there were bees swarming around the outside planters that were really close to the outdoor tables. I have never been stung before and don't know if I am allergic.) The patio chairs are also rocking chairs so that added to the comfort of eating outside. The ambiance is nice and the restaurant is decorated very nicely. The location is GREAT! It's right on the river and not too far from the main street in downtown (East Front St.). Parking is plentiful and free at certain times of the day; two luxuries we haven't experienced in Chicago for a while. Overall the restaurant is pretty and in a great location, but the food needs improvement. I was disappointed as I was really craving sushi during that weekend in TC.

Do NOT order sushi here. We had 3 rolls for lunch: Veggie, Dragon and El Gordo and all of them were bad. The Veggie and Dragon came out first and both were 80-90% rice (which was quite dry) with very little flavor. As we finished those the El Gordo arrived at our table. It looked like a mess. First off there is no rice in it, instead its pan-seared tuna wrapped around some sort of creamy cheese and then covered with salsa. It was pretty much just a pile of mush. Could barely eat it. Easily the worst sushi experience that I've ever had.

I love the variety of food on Firefly's ever changing menu. There is something for everyone - various Asian cuisine, Middle Eastern and American. The small plates are fun to share with everyone on the table. They have great specials on Sunday for dinner.
